Kansas is home to more than two dozen daily newspapers and several dozen weeklies, with the first newspaper in the state appearing in 1856.

Published in Topeka by Gannett, the Capital-Journal can trace its roots back to the Kansas State Record, which was founded in 1858.

Published in Wichita by The McClatchy Co., the Eagle was founded in 1872. It serves Wichita and its surrounding area.

The Journal is published by Gannett and was founded in 1871, and serves north-central and north-western Kansas.

Winner of a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 1965, the News was founded in 1872.

5. Lawrence Journal-World
Published in Lawrence, the Journal-World dates back to 1858. It got its current name when the Lawrence World acquired the Lawrence Journal in 1905.

6. The Manhattan Mercury
Published every day except Saturdays, the Mercury was founded in 1884, originally as a weekly. It became a daily in 1909.

7. Great Bend Tribune
Serves Barton and Pawnee counties, including the cities of Great Bend, Hoisington, Ellinwood, Claflin, and Albert.

Published every day except Saturday, the Daily News serves most of western Kansas.

Based in Emporia, the Gazette won a Pulitzer Prize in 1923. The newspaper is still founded by the White family, which founded it in 1890.

The Telegram is published six days a week in Garden City, and is owned by Gannett.
