The Top 10 New Hampshire Daily Newspapers by Circulation

Like all states along the U.S Eastern Seaboard, New Hampshire has a long and rich history with newspapers, with the oldest continuous newspaper in the country having been founded there (the bi-weekly New Hampshire Gazette, based in Portsmouth).

  • 1. New Hampshire Union Leader
    Published by Union Leader Corp. in Manchester, and known as the New Hampshire Sunday News on Sundays.
  • 2. The Telegraph
    Also known as the Nashua Telegraph, it was founded in 1869 (although a weekly version was founded more than 30 years earlier, in 1832). It’s published by Ogden Newspapers.
  • 3. Concord Monitor
    Published by Newspapers of New England, the Concord Monitor serves the state capital city of Concord along with parts or all of Merrimack, Belknap, Grafton, Rockingham and Hillsborough counties.
  • 4. The Laconia Daily Sun
    Published five days a week, The Laconia Daily Sun covers Belknap County and the Lakes Region, including smaller communities such as Meredith and Alton Bay.
  • 5. Valley News
    Published by Newspapers of New England out of Lebanon, New Hampshire, this publication covers the Upper Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont.
  • 6. The Conway Daily Sun
    Another five-day-a-week daily, The Conway Daily Sun is published in North Conway and covers the Mount Washington Valley.
  • 7. Foster’s Daily Democrat
    Foster’s Daily Democrat is published six days per week out of Dover. It’s owned by GateHouse Media.
  • 8. Eagle Times
    The Eagle Times serves the Connecticut River Valley area, and was founded in the 1970s. The newspaper closed briefly in mid 2009 but resumed, under new ownership, a few months later.
  • 9. Portsmouth Herald
    This publication is also published six days per week, by Local Media Group. It serves Portsmouth along with the municipalities of Greenland, New Castle, Newington and Rye.
  • 10. The Keene Sentinel
    The Keene Sentinel was founded all the way back in 1799, making it the 5th-oldest continuous newspaper in the U.S. It is independently owned and, continuing a trend on this list, also publishes fewer than seven days a week (in this case, six).
