The Top 10 North Dakota Daily Newspapers by Circulation

The first newspaper in North Dakota was started by two American Civil War soldiers stationed at Fort Union, entitled the Frontier Scout, during the height of the Civil War in 1864. It was discontinued in 1865.

    Also known as “The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead”, The Forum was founded in 1891 and is the result of a merger between the Fargo Forum and Moorhead Daily News.

    The Daily news is published in Minot. It was founded in the late 19th century as the Burlington Reporter.
  • 3. Grand Forks Herald
    Founded in 1879, the Herald is the primary daily for the regions of northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.
  • 4. Bismarck Tribune
    The Tribune was founded in 1873 and is published by Lee Enterprises. It is the primary daily for the regions of south-central and southwest North Dakota.
  • 5. The Dickinson Press
    Known as “The Press”, the Dickinson Press serves Stark County and much of southwest North Dakota.
  • 6. Jamestown Sun
    Published in Jamestown by Forum Communications, the Sun serves Stutsman County and southeast North Dakota.
  • 7. Williston Daily Herald
    Published every day other than Saturday, the Daily Herald serves Williams County along with parts of northwestern North Dakota and northeastern Montana.
  • 8. Valley City Times-Record
    Published Monday-Friday, the Times-Record was founded in 1882 as the Valley City Weekly Times.
  • 9. Daily News (Wahpeton)
    Published every day except Mondays, the Daily News was founded in 1971 and serves Wahpeton, along with Breckenridge and Wilkin counties in Minnesota.
  • 10. Devils Lake Journal
    Founded in 1906 as the Devils Lake Daily Journal, the Journal serves Ramsey County and parts of northeast North Dakota.
