The first newspaper in Ohio’s history, the Scioto Gazette, appeared in 1801 (two years before Ohio gained U.S. statehood) and ceased publication just two years later.

1. The Columbus Dispatch
Founded in 1871 as The Daily Dispatch, the Columbus Dispatch has been the only major daily serving Ohio’s capital since The Columbus Citizen-Journal shuttered in 1985.

2. Dayton Daily News
Also known as “DDN”, the Daily News was founded in 1898 as the Dayton Evening News.

3. The Cincinnati Enquirer
Serves Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky and founded in 1841, the Enquirer won a Pulitzer Prize for local reporting in 2018.

4. Akron Beacon Journal
The Beacon Journal serves Akron and much of northeast Ohio, and was founded in 1839. It has won four Pulitzer Prizes, with the most recent in 1994.

Published in Toledo (and also known as the “Toledo Blade”), it was founded in 1835 and is the oldest continuously run business in Toledo.

Founded in 1879 as the Willoughby Independent, the News-Herald serves Lake and Geauga counties and parts of Cuyahoga County.

Founded in 1869, The Vindicator serves Youngstown along with Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.

Published in Canton and founded way back in 1815 as The Ohio Repository, The Repository publishes seven days a week.

Published in Lima and serving Allen, Auglaize, Hancock, Hardin, Logan, Mercer, Putnam, Shelby and Van Wert counties.
